Mass follows a consistent order of prayer, Scripture readings, and the Eucharist.
If you're new or have never been to Mass, here's a quick overview to help you feel at home.
What to Expect
What to wear
While there is no official dress code, we do ask that you dress appropriately and reverently.
Here are some guidelines:
Clothing should cover the chest, shoulders, back, and legs (at least to the knee).
Avoid clothing that is too tight, form-fitting, or revealing.
Women should avoid low-cut tops and short skirts; men should avoid tank tops and short shorts.
Parking
Handicap parking is available right in front of all of our churches. St. Benedict’s church has parking available along 2nd Street, Unity Street, the school parking lots, and an additional lot on Third Street across from the school.
Length
Sunday Mass is typically 45–60 minutes. Daily Mass runs about 45 minutes.
Bringing children
Families with children are very much at home here. If your little ones need a moment, feel free to step into the narthex by the main doors. It happens often, and no one minds.
Sitting and standing
There are moments of sitting, standing, and kneeling during Mass. Just follow along with those around you. No one will mind if you're not sure when to do what. The hymnals/missals in the pew also have guidance on the order of the Mass with the responses and directions on when to sit, stand, and kneel.
Receiving Communion
The Eucharist is offered to baptized Catholics who are in a state of grace. If you're not Catholic or need to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, you're welcome to come forward with arms crossed over your chest to receive a blessing instead.

St. Benedict Parish is home to Atchison’s only Perpetual Adoration Chapel! This means that the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for prayer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the adoration chapel, except during Mass. All are welcome to stop in anytime for quiet prayer.
